Titan Poker Texas Holdem
Texas Holdem Is The King Of Poker
Texas Holdem was once an obscure game played primarily in the state of Texas, where it got its name from. It goes all the way back to the early 1900’s, although it wasn’t until famous road gamblers such as Doyle Brunson and Amarillo Slim brought the game to Las Vegas in 1967 that it began to gain more notoriety.
Soon, the World Series of Poker began, and Texas Holdem was the game that was played to decide the world champion of poker. It wasn’t until several decades later, when poker really started to explode on television, together with the ability to play on the internet, that Texas Holdem started taking over.
It took the world by storm at this point though and became by far the most popular form of poker in the world, where it remains today. It’s become so popular that when people refer to poker these days they generally mean Texas Holdem.
Why Texas Holdem Is So Appealing
There are several things that makes Texas Holdem really stand out as the world’s most popular poker game, and not the least of which is its position in the popular media. Certainly, given that the world’s biggest poker tournaments use this variation, and the fact that people see players playing it so much on television, this no doubt helped it catch on.
Add in the fact that it’s a pretty easy game to learn but is complex enough that even the best players never stop learning and you now really have something that is both very accessible and very exciting.
Perhaps the biggest factor behind the success of Texas Holdem is that it is a community card game, which means the chances for two or more players having similar hands is a lot higher than in other forms of poker.
The reason why this matters is that the closer players’ hands are to one another, the more action that you tend to see with the betting. So in a community card game with three of a suit on the board, the cards players share with one another, the chances of more than one player with a flush is a lot higher, and if there are four of a suit on the board, it goes up a lot more.
This is just one example of countless ones where sharing a group of cards can lead to several players having bigger hands and betting heavily on them. The more action there is, the more exciting players find the game. So Texas Holdem is set up perfectly for all of this.
How To Play Texas Holdem
Learning to play Texas Holdem is fairly easy, although mastering the game does take more effort of course, so you will want to get in plenty of practice, and there’s no better place to do it than at Titan Poker. You will want to also work on playing your game with real money, as play money practice won’t do you any good really, as the players at these games have no regard for chips and it does not resemble real money poker in any way.
The hand rankings common to all poker games apply here, so players first need to familiarize themselves with that if they have not already. The first two players to the dealer’s left first put bets in the pot, with the first one called the small blind, where half the amount of the blind is put in, and the second to the left of the dealer puts in a full blind. The size of the blinds differ depending on the stakes, which are listed as small blind/big blind, as in $1/$2.
Two cards are dealt face down to each player, which is called your hole cards. Then there is a round of betting. Next, three cards are also dealt in the middle of the table, called the flop, followed by another betting round. Two more cards are dealt in the middle, called the turn and the river, with a betting round following each. Then, provided someone hasn’t taken the pot by everyone else folding, the hands are shown down and the highest ranked hand wins the pot.
Choosing Game Types With Texas Holdem
Limit Texas Holdem used to be the most popular form by far at one time, where the size of bets are dictated by the size of the big blind, with a maximum set on the amount of raises as well.
While you can still play Limit Texas Holdem at online sites like Titan Poker, it has fallen out of fashion, and the predominant game these days is the no limit version. In No Limit there is literally no limit on the size of your bets and raises, including betting your whole stack, called going all in.
Players who do not have enough money to cover a certain bet or raise and who wish to continue with the hand can put whatever chips they have left on the table into the pot, with the size of their call determining how much they can win. You no longer have to throw your horse in there as well as you did in the days of the Old West.
There is also a form called Pot Limit which is similar to No Limit other than your bets and raises are limited by the amount in the pot. This form isn’t popular at all anymore with Holdem but it is with the game of Omaha, where most Omaha games are Pot Limit.
You can also choose to play cash Texas Holdem, where the chips represent real money, or play a Texas Holdem tournament, where the entrance fee buys you a certain amount of chips, and the amount of money you win, if any, depends on how well you do in the tournament.
All in all, it is no accident that Texas Holdem is the number one form of poker not only at Titan Poker but throughout the whole world as well, because it truly is that much fun to play, especially with real money on the line. If you are already familiar with this game then you don’t need me to tell you that, but if you aren’t, then you definitely need to experience this for yourself.
